Background:
I studied Biochemistry at the University of Frankfurt, Germany, where I finished my Master with honor in December 2017. During my studies I developed strong interest in Cell Biology and cellular signaling pathways. I am fascinated by the many processes that take place simultaneously in a single cell and by how these processes are coordinated within the cell.
During a 6 months internship in the de la Roche group, Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, I was able to gain more insights into the field of cancer research. My project was to determine whether the oncogenic Wnt signaling pathway is a therapeutic target in colon cancer. Therefor I re-introduced the full-length APC (adenomatous polypopsis coli) gene in colorectal tumor cells expressing a truncated version of APC and analyzed WNT signaling in these cells by Western Blotting and Luciferase Reporter Assays.
Encouraged by this internship to continue with cancer research I started my Master thesis in Prof. Dr. Martin Zörnig’s laboratory at the Georg-Speyer-Haus in Frankfurt, an institute for tumor biology and experimental therapy. Here I investigated the role of the transcriptional regulator FUBP1 in erythroid differentiation and leukemia. Therefor I induced erythroid differentiation in hematopoietic progenitor cells and analyzed gene expression during the process of differentiation. Furthermore, I performed FUBP1 knockdown and chromatin-immunoprecipitation experiments.
