Hollfelder Group

Ph.D student

Joined the lab: October 2019

Background and Current Projects: My interest in protein engineering stemmed from my undergraduate years at Imperial College London. When it came to my final year research project, I chose to focus on elucidating the oligomeric state of a membrane transporter by mutagenesis. It was captivating to me at the time how small modifications in the transporter can introduce drastic changes to its functionality, and how the results aid in understanding its underlying mechanisms. After obtaining a BSc in Biotechnology, I joined Hollfelder group with the aim to demonstrate a proof of principle for enzymatic plastic degradation. I am focusing on artificially evolving plastic-degrading enzymes for improved activity on the microfluidics platform, and study how to incorporate enzymatic plastic degradation to emerging technologies for efficient plastic upcycling.

Interests: I like running, group hiking, and a Quentin Tarantino movie on a rainy day.
