Hollfelder Group

Ph.D. student

Joined the lab: October 2022 (M.Phil), October 2023 (Ph.D)

Background and Current Projects: I studied Natural Sciences at St Catharine’s College Cambridge, graduating in 2022. During my bachelor's, I worked in the lab of Prof. Paul Dupree, searching the tomato genome for an enzyme involved in the synthesis of a novel plant cell wall polysaccharide. I went on to work in the Macromolecular Crystallography group at Diamond Light Source, working within the Electron Biology Imaging Centre (eBIC) and the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH), using electron microscopy and crystallography to study both membrane and soluble proteins. My current work is with the Dupree and Hollfelder labs. I am focused on developing new high-throughput methods to explore the capabilities of plant cell wall-degrading enzymes, using natural substrates for directed evolution campaigns. This had potential applications in biotechnology, as well as helping to expand our understanding of how carbohydrate-active enzymes function and evolve.

Interests:  My go-to activities include outdoor swimming, running, cycling, hiking and social climbing. I also enjoy cooking and looking after plants.
