M.Phil student
Joined the lab: October 2024
Background and Current Projects: My biological career started with an environmental voluntary service in the German Wadden Sea during which I developed a particular interest in and passion for marine conservation. Thus, I pursued an undergraduate degree (BSc Hons) in Marine Biology at the University of Aberdeen, from which I graduated in 2024. To complement my studies, I did several internships in various research areas. Amongst them was a research experience placement at the School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen, during which I worked on microplastics and their depositional mechanisms in deep-sea sediment in the Gulf of Cadiz. This placement sparked my interest in plastic pollution and led me to conduct my Honours Project on microplastic in marine gastropods and how different feeding mechanisms influence particle ingestion. Continuing with the plastic theme, I will use microfluidics and directed evolution to investigate plastic-degrading enzymes for my MPhil research project at the Hollfelder lab.
Interests: I love being outside in nature - often you can spot me with binoculars and a bird-identifying book in hand - and I have a PADI license and enjoy going scuba diving. Less adventurous hobbies of mine include knitting and crocheting, singing in choirs and reading.
